Overview

The new 2009 Chevrolet Epica now comes with a new striking look and advanced technologies, giving car buyers the perfect combination of a better performance with a sporty, contemporary look, and without compromise to comfort and drivability.

Exterior

The design innovation of The Epica is evident in the exterior of the car. The front end is dominated by a large chrome radiator grille with bold horizontal bar, giving the Epica a stately road presence with a touch of flair. The large, strikingly curved headlamps housing silver bezel projection lamps accentuate the strong and bold personality of the Epica.

The car comes equipped with standard 16- inch rims (2.0-litre) and 17-inch rims (2.5-litre) lending it a stunningly sporty and bold image. Manicure-safe door handles and two-tone side wing mirrors with integrated turn signal lamps, common in premium large cars, add to the overall refined styling.

Interior

The Epica offers the same luxury of cabin space as its predecessors, for a comfortable drive or ride. In drive, the Epica is quiet and provides smooth ride enjoyment with fine luxury features such as fine quality leather, an integrated 6-CD audio system with an eight-speaker network and MP3 plug-and-play.

Under the hood

The Epica will be available in 2.0-litre and 2.5-litre engine variants. The 2.0-litre variant is capable of up to 140 hp at 6,400 rpm and maximum torque of 195 Nm at 4,600 rpm while the 2.5 litre variant is able to reach 154 hp at 5,800 rpm and a maximum torque of 237 Nm at 4000 rpm.

A completely new six-speed automatic gearbox is now available in the new 2009 Epica. This new transmission optimises engine use and delivers improved fuel economy at high speeds, compared to typical four-speed automatic transmissions. Furthermore, the new gearbox offers smoother shifts, and a more comfortable ride. At constant speeds of 90-120 km/h, the Epica 2.5 delivers a 15 percent improvement in fuel economy; performance and handling are bolstered with smaller steps in between its six gears. Besides improved launch and acceleration due to a steep 4.58:1 first gear, an overdrive sixth gear reduces engine rpm while travelling on expressways, and helps to reduce engine wear while improving fuel economy.

Safety

Like its predecessor, the new 2009 Epica provides driving reassurance by having multiple safety features. It is fitted with a steel safety cage surrounding the car to provide reinforced protect in the event of a collision. This is in addition to a standard host of features, such as dual front airbags for the 2.0-litre version (dual front airbags and two side airbags for the 2.5-litre version), ABS and traction control. ISOFIX child safety fittings are also in place for the children’s safety.
