A lot of people have no idea or haven’t got any time to change the oil on their car so they take it to those quick oil change shops. Nevertheless are all these oil change places on the up and up? In this article, I am going to focus on why it isn’t a great idea to go to these places and why you should find a regular mechanic instead.

I am sure you are aware that every car has certain rules of thumb about when certain services should be done. Such things as oil changes, air filter changes along with other routinely scheduled maintenance. Still have you really checked out the owner’s manual for your car? I know for certain that your oil does not need to be changed every 3000 miles much like these quick oil change places will tell you. If you review your manual, you’ll notice that you probably need to get the oil changed every 6000 to 7000 miles. So basically these oil change businesses are lying to you about that.

If you review the owner’s manual, you will also see when you should get the air filters changed. In my situation, it is recommended that I change my car’s air filter every two years or if it’s all clogged up. In my instance, the air filter really looked decent after four years but I opted to change it anyway just in case. But why every time I used to visit the oil change places they inform me I need a new air filter? At one time I went down and replaced my air filter and 6 months down the track I went to an oil change place and they told me I needed a new air filter. They claimed that the air filtration system was starting to discolor which suggested that it would start clogging at anytime. After I explained to them it was put in about 6 months ago, they told me that I could probably still use it for another 6 months before it need to be replaced.

The thing I don’t understand about that is that initially this individual told me it needed to be changed. Then once I told them about the new air filter, they changed their response. It really shows how very, very bad and dishonest these people who are employed at these oil change places are.

One further thing that one of these companies managed to do was change my transmission fluid once. It all seems like they’re going to tell you that your transmission fluid will need to be changed every time you visit. This one occasion I allowed the crooks to do it. And then approximately 3 months later when I drove back again for an oil change they told me my transmission fluid was dirty and needed to be changed. That was the final time I ever patronized any of those places.

I’ve since found an honest mechanic and I don’t bring my cars anywhere else anymore. One thing you should know is that the staff of the oil change places don’t have to go to school to tell you what you need to have done to your car. For this reason you are better off selecting a certified repair shop.
