2010-Mercedes-Concept-BlueZERO-E-CELL-PLUS

The German company Mercedes Benz will unveil a pre-production version of electric vehicle BlueZERO E-CELL PLUS at Frankfurt Motor Show. The E-Cell is an electric vehicle, which the company says can make up to 100 km only with electricity.

The E-CELL PLUS BlueZERO is powered by an engine with a 18 kWh lithium-ion battery that is recharged by an engine turbocharger 1.0-liter three-cylinder petrol engine that generates an output of 67 hp. The battery is connected to an electric motor that generates an output of 100 kw. The Concept does 0 to 60 mph in just 11 seconds and can reach a top speed of 93 mph.

The Mercedes-Benz E-Plus Concept Cell BlueZERO can recharge its batteries by connecting it to a special adapter or a conventional outlet. This special adapter has a capacity of 20kW and after about thirty minutes, allowing partially charge the batteries, so that the E-Plus Cell can walk about 50 miles in electric mode hundred percent. If we use this special charger and instead of waiting a half hour load lengthened to an hour, we managed to fully charge the batteries. In the event that we do not have this kind of quick charge, we can also connect the batteries to household current. In this case, and after six hours, the battery charge is one hundred percent.

The technical configuration of the Mercedes E-Plus Concept Cell BlueZERO allows agile handling at all times. The electric motor is situated in the area of the front axle, the lithium-ion batteries in a central location between the two axes and under the floor of the car, while the heat engine is located on the rear axle, under the trunk. Due to the latter, the trunk’s cargo space is not diminished, with a capacity of 500 liters.

This concept E-Cell, Mercedes is also developing two prototypes: the E-Cell, a hundred percent electric car with a range of up to 200 km and the BlueZERO Fuell-Cell, which operates in conjunction with a hydrogen fuel cell with a battery and electric motor that can travel up to 400 km without emitting CO2.
