Video: Ghazal-1 Saudi Arabia Student Created SUV

King Saud University has announced the first type of the original cars made in Saudi Arabia an SUV prototype exhibited at the automotive world “Geneva International Motor Show in Switzerland. SUV project was given the name “Ghazal 1″ which means deer desert, which is one of the fastest animals that live in the desert and can combine the elegance and impact resistance in harsh environments.

Project “Ghazal 1″ started in April 2009 and is targeted to be completed in total in May 2010, ahead of its inaugural launch, the car is 100% authentic Arabia – made from King Saud University Riyadh.

“Ghazal 1″ has stolen the attention of visitors the exhibition, not only the original prototype of this car made in Arabia, but this car was not designed by the official automotive industry, but by the campus. “Ghazal 1″ became one of 100 cars of the latest cars on display in a prestigious car exhibition in Switzerland. Ghazal 1 is considered as one of the great works of technology that comes from the Arab and Islamic world.

Ghazal 1 development project, carried out by a group of students from King Saud University who tried to design a vehicle that have specification according to climate and topography of the Gulf region sand. This project relies solely on the creativity of the students of King Saud University; they hold several trainings and workshops in designing this car, not only in Riyadh but also in Turin Italy.

Professor of industrial engineering department of King Saud University, Dr.Said Darwish who introduced this car in the international automobile exhibition to say that this car model based on tests of category development ‘wheelbase’ and collaborated with several major companies including engine manufacturers to use a Motorola, for German Mercedes engines, Magna Canada as a provider of auto parts. And the students were given full freedom to design and innovative elements of this car project.

Ghazal 1 measuring 4.8 meters long with a width of about 1.9 meters.

Dr.Said Darwish emphasized that this car is designed for use on all roads and terrain, even in difficult conditions, while in the car interior is designed to provide comfort for passengers, so passengers do not feel the atmosphere of noise outside.

Darwish also stressed that the ultimate goal of the work of King Saud University is to promote the culture of the automotive industry and the training of young engineers to participate in research and development of innovative designs using the latest vehicles and technologies that are available from the manufacturer of the best cars in the world, and this project allows the exchange of knowledge between various cultures, both academic and industrial, where the development Ghazal 1 of this project in cooperation with Magna Steyr, a studio that specializes in engineering design in the city of Turin, Italy.

Darwish expressed to the media about the plans for this car to market, pending the investment of 400 million euros in order to produce mass cars 20,000 cars annually in three years.

King Saud University who has been able to create a 100%-made cars Arabia is the largest university in the education world, and Saudi Arabia is one of 300 best universities in the world.
